Great Oden’s Raven!
Greg Oden’s junk on the internet isn’t a huge deal to me but it does reflect poorly on him and the organization. With situations like this, I’m always less focused on the action and more interested in how the individual handles it once public. If you want a clinic on how to diffuse controversial off-court situations, the Blazers put one on last night. Greg Oden requested to come out and tell the truth. He did just that with contrition and humility. Even the GM spoke from the heart about the situation on our show. Well played. Nipped in the bud. No more speculation. End of story. We can all move on. That’s how it’s done.

One last thing. I absolutely love it when people mock the tense, over-the-top self importance of sports press conferences. Most pressers are truly ridiculous in their raw form. Last night that happened when a female reporter asked Greg Oden what he was embarrassed about considering the size of his mutton. Certainly awkward and quite a bit off-sides but fantastic nonetheless.
